Top Mesothelioma sites for patients

Mesothelioma is a rare malignant cancer which can develop years after exposure to asbestos. Currently, there is compensation available for some patients who develop mesothelioma, in some countries. A number of unscrupulous websites and litigators have sprung up to take advantage of the interest in this condition, so I thought I would redress the balance by pointing out some quality information sites.

Blogs

Well, there are lots of blogs out there on this topic, but I can’t find anyone who has written about their own experiences with the disease. I think it is likely that patients with the disease have something better to do, but I thought there would be some family members blogging about their experience with the disease. I would even be interested in real blogs from people dealing with the litigation side of it. But they all seem to be set up so people can make money.

Do you know someone writing a good personal blog about dealing with mesothelioma? Please leave a link in the comments section below. Beware - I will delete comment spam on this one!

Mesothelioma Lawyers

I have issues with lawyers who advertise, probably because we don’t do that in Australia. Most websites for personal injury lawyers in this field reek of trying to make more money. If you or your family need legal advice on this subject, then I would encourage you to go to a local lawyer you trust and ask them to refer you to someone who can give you good representation

You stated that no one had responded to the article about Meso. You stated also that maybe they were busy. Yes, they are very busy fighting the disease and seeing doctor after doctor and having tests and more tests.

I was diagnosed in May of 1996. I have peritoneal and pleural Meso. It is a full time job keeping ahead of Mr. Meso. There are more treatments now, and the statistics are better, but many do die very quickly with the disease.

Doctors want to know my magical formula! I take lots of antioxidants and try to leave it in God’s hands.

Regarding lawyers..yes, many sites are ran by lawyers. Too bad they have to make a living off dying people, but that is the way it is. When I was first diagnosed in 1996, there were very few sites and information about Meso, except that it was fatal! After 9/11, there were many people exposed and there will be a need for lawyers. Many lawyers are considered “runners”. They do not try the cases, they just sign you up and refer you to someone else that does go to trial. O course, they are also going to get a piece of your settlement. You need to shop around and get one that knows about Meso and does represent people. You can also negotiate the fee.

Thanks so much for your comments, Jill. It is great to hear some comments from someone who is dealing with the disease. I think it is unlikely to see a blog from a patient, for the reasons you mentioned. However, I felt that there are a lot of people out there dealing with this disease, and it seems wierd that none of those family members, or patient advocates have posted their experiences.

Thanks for your advice about seeking legal representation. It seems like a real minefield! It is nice to know that there are good guys out there as well.
